Stapferstube da Rizzo

The Stapferstube in Zurich-Oberstrass is a long-established restaurant where host Giovanni Rizzo has had Italian food cooked for many years. Rizzo, who previously worked in Küsnacht, places great value on refined hospitality and on good wines and spirits. The Guide MICHELIN describes the atmosphere as cosy and lively, with a warm southern manner appreciated by regulars and newcomers alike. The restaurant is in the Oberstrass district above the old town, not far from the universities.

The cooking is Italian and down to earth. Typical dishes are the tris di pasta della casa, three home-made pasta dishes on one plate, gamberoni with garlic, olive oil and peperoncino, or brasato al Barolo, beef braised in Barolo. The menu is aimed at guests looking for Italian classics à la carte rather than a multi-course tasting menu. The Stapferstube is the most accessible address in this Zurich selection: on weekdays there is a quick, moderately priced lunch menu, and in the evening the mood is relaxed. A terrace and parking make a visit easier, and for cigar lovers there is a separate smoking lounge that can also be used for dining.
