Piazza Duomo
Enrico Crippa’s restaurant behind the red door in Alba: cooking built on vegetables, herbs and flowers, largely home grown.

The trattoria in the Piazza Duomo building: Piedmontese classics from the chalkboard and wines focused on the Langhe and Roero.

La Piola opened in May 2005 together with Piazza Duomo in the same Ceretto family building on Piazza Risorgimento. The name refers to the piola, the simple village inn in Piedmont where people go to eat together and drink wine. The kitchen is under the overall direction of Enrico Crippa, but it is much more accessible and affordable than the starred restaurant in the same building.
The menu changes daily with the market and the season and is written on two chalkboards, alongside permanent classics. These include tajarin with sausage ragù or, in season, with truffle, agnolotti del plin in roasting juices, Russian salad and Fassona beef served raw as tartare or in fine slices. The wine list concentrates on the Langhe and Roero, with a large selection by the glass. For dessert there is always the house gianduiotto.
Good to know: Open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, closed on Sunday and Monday; in autumn, from early October to early December, also open on Sundays. Book online or by phone.
A cuisine between the Alps and the hills, shaped by butter, egg pasta, meat from the Fassone, the Piedmontese breed of cattle, and long sequences of antipasti. In autumn white truffles from the Langhe and the Roero dominate the menus, joined by Nebbiolo wines from Barolo and Barbaresco.
Typical wines: Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, Moscato d’Asti DOCG
