A corner restaurant in Winterhude since 1999: classic Italian cooking, a wine list honoured by Gambero Rosso and three terraces.
Falstaff Restaurant- & Gasthausguide Deutschland 2026: 89 points; Gambero Rosso, 2026 ratings: three Bottiglie for the wine list
Gallo Nero, the ‘black rooster’, has welcomed guests since 1999 in a corner building on Sierichstraße in Winterhude, seven days a week and on three terraces. The soul of the restaurant is Corrado Falco, a host with Sicilian roots, supported by a team some of whom have been there for many years; his daughter Nina now works there too. Besides the restaurant there is an enoteca, a bar and the Alimentari, a room for smaller groups.
The cooking is classic Italian with seasonal and regional influences, and its producers come from southern Italy and northern Germany. The classics include home-made tagliolini with truffle in a parmesan wafer and calf’s liver with mashed potato. Gambero Rosso highlights olive oil from the Monti Iblei near Ragusa and meat from Sicilian Modicana cattle. The pasta is made in house, and to finish Gallo Nero confidently recommends its tiramisù.
The wine list is Corrado Falco’s passion; Gambero Rosso awards it three Bottiglie, or bottles, the highest level. Some wines, for instance from Monterossa, the I Vigneri consortium and Monteverro, are available in Hamburg only here, according to the restaurant; over the years many winemakers have become friends of the house. Gallo Nero suits wine lovers and an easy lunch on the terrace.
Good to know: Open daily from noon to midnight.
