Louis Rampoldi, an Italian immigrant and former cook at the Hôtel de Paris, founded the restaurant in 1946 on Avenue des Spélugues; it is regarded as Monaco’s first Italian restaurant. Over the decades it became a meeting place for Monegasque society, and according to the restaurant its guests included Princess Grace and Roger Moore. Prince Albert II wrote the foreword to the book marking its 75th anniversary. In 2026 the restaurant celebrates its 80th anniversary.
Antonio Salvatore has run Rampoldi since 2016; after a comprehensive renovation the dining room presents itself in timeless Art Deco style. The menu combines Italian and Mediterranean tradition with French influences: vitello tonnato, octopus carpaccio, home-made tagliatelle with braised beef cheek and sea bass in a salt crust. For dessert there is, for example, a classic soufflé and the tiramisu ‘Rampoldi’. In the evening the ‘Tradizioni’ tasting menu complements the menu.
Rampoldi suits business meals as well as an evening after the Casino. According to Salvatore, most of the team has worked at the restaurant for nine years or longer. Through the MC Hospitality Group he now runs several restaurants in Monaco and New York, where there are two offshoots of Rampoldi. If you want to experience Salvatore’s cooking in a smaller, more gastronomically ambitious setting, you will find La Table d’Antonio Salvatore on the lower floor.
Good to know: In the evening the ‘Tradizioni’ tasting menu is offered, according to Gault&Millau for €175 excluding drinks.
