La Pergola
Rome’s only three-star restaurant: Heinz Beck has cooked on Monte Mario since 1994, with a terrace and views over the city.

The roof garden of the Palazzo Manfredi with a view of the Colosseum, and Roman classics with Campanian touches at starred level.
Guide MICHELIN Italia 2026: one star
Aroma occupies the top floor of the Palazzo Manfredi, a five-star hotel on Via Labicana directly opposite the Colosseum. A lift takes you up to a roof garden; in winter the terrace is enclosed and covered. According to the Guide MICHELIN, the view stretches from the Colosseum over the Domus Aurea and the Altare della Patria to the dome of St Peter’s. Giuseppe Di Iorio has led the kitchen since 2010, and the restaurant has held a Michelin star since the 2015 edition.
Di Iorio combines Roman classics with Campanian touches and his own contemporary creations. There are four tasting menus, one of them vegetarian, but the dishes can also be ordered individually à la carte. That suits guests who do not want to spend a whole evening at the table. Aroma fits an evening for two, a first visit to Rome with a view of antiquity and, at lunchtime, a quiet business meal above the rooftops.
Good to know: Open every evening, and for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday. Book early for a table with a view of the Colosseum.
Roman cooking is direct and robust: guanciale, the cured pork cheek, Pecorino Romano and pepper carry the great pasta dishes, joined by the quinto quarto, the ‘fifth quarter’ of offal and oxtail. Roman Jewish cooking has contributed classics such as fried artichokes.
Typical wines: Frascati Superiore DOCG, Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, Roma DOC
