One name has shaped Frankfurt’s top Italian cooking for decades: Carmelo Greco, Sicilian by birth with a Piedmontese training, was one of the city’s starred chefs for around three decades. His restaurant is in Sachsenhausen, really the district of apple wine. In the Guide MICHELIN Deutschland 2026 it is listed without a star; in the Falstaff guide of the same year, with 91 points, it is among the highest-rated Italian restaurants in Germany.
Other restaurants cultivate quite different styles. Brighella in Eschersheim has been run by two friends for more than three decades; one of them co-founded the Gallustheater in the 1970s, and the commedia dell’arte still shapes the restaurant today. In the city centre, Occhio d’Oro, on the seventh floor of a listed hotel at the Eschenheimer Tor, serves Tuscan and Florentine cooking with a view of the skyline.
Tip: During trade fairs, tables and hotel rooms in Frankfurt are scarce; book as early as possible in those weeks.
